Nigeria Medical Association Kano State Branch NMA has appealed to the Kano State governor Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, to urgently dismiss Kano State Commissioner for humanitarian, Amina Abdullahi HOD.
According to a statement signed by the MNA’s Chairman Dr. Abdurrahman Ali said “Is deeply alarming and outraged by an incident that took place on 1, November 2024 at the emergency pediatric unit of Murtala Muhammad Hospital, in this distressing incident a Female Doctor on duty who is along manning the all pediatric units with over one hundred patients in the hospital in her care was subjected to harassment and physical assault by the group les the Commissioner and by the security personnel accompanied and other unidentified men.’
This issue arose over the unavailability of prescribed medication, and the issue was entirely beyond the doctor’s control.
“As a representative body of professional NMA, I find it particularly disturbing that an official entrusted with the welfare of the state’s citizens would misuse their authority in his manner.” He said.
NMA Urges Kano Government to Fulfill Agreement
According to him, “Such action demonstrates a lack of symphony for the hard-working health care professional but also revealed the troubling disregard for the systematic challenges facing the public health sector.”
Such a chronic understanding, shortage of resources, and security concerns for medical staff. Incidents are becoming too frequent, putting medical professionals at unacceptable personal risk while they strive to fulfill their duties to the public under highly challenging conditions.’ NMA Chairman mentioned.
“Our stand over this disheartening incident is calling on the Kano State governor to immediately sack the commissioner within 48 hours or to suspend all our doctors working at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital.”
