The Vice Chancellor of the Yusuf Maitama Sule University, Kano Professor Muktar Atiku Kurawa, has given reasons why the Institution reduced cut-off marks for the 2024/2025 Post Unified Tertiary Matriculation Extermination UTME.
He said the cut-off marks for entry points into the institution are reduced to 150 from the previous 160 and 170 points.
This, Professor Kurawa said, was aimed at supporting the education policy of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in revamping the sector.
He disclosed this in an interview session with Top Daily News, reporter during the 2024/2025 post-UTME examination day held on 23rd October 2023 at the two Institution’s campuses in Kano State.
He revealed that the current administration under the Kano State governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf has prioritized education in its policy and allowed candidates to have access to tertiary education.
According to him, “It is important to at this time when Kano State governor declared free and compulsory education and slashed 50% percent on state Tertiary Institutions schools fee for Kano indigene.”
To give our contributions, the year 2024/2025 cut-off marks start from 150, unlike the previous years in which 160 then 170. Alhamdulillah, over twelve thousand applicants applied for this year’s Post-UTME examination into Yusuf Maitama Sule University, Kano, and they successfully wrote their exams and are awaiting the results.”
In an interview with a student, Ibrahim Abdullahi, after the exam explained:” I applied to study Physiology after I scored 168 in JAMB, and the cut-off marks are 165. I have to thank the University management for the reduction of this year’s mark, which allowed us to participate in the 2024/2025 Post UTME examination.”
When asked how he observed the arrangement of the exam?. He said”It was well arranged all exam halls had been attached with invigilators and also the exam sheets of the person close to is different and only the National ID Card and exam slip were agreed for entrance to avoid examination malpractice”
“We must thank the former Kano State governor Engr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso for this laudable initiative. As a result, now we are willing to enroll in the University.” He state
However, Zainab, Shu’aibu Muhammad, who registered for Medical Surgery, said: ” This is the first time I sat the JAMB examination and scored 237, and I have an interest in entering into medicine to help women due to the lack of female doctors in the profession.”
I feel bad when I remember that male doctors are attending female patients in our hospitals, which is why he has the passion to study Medical Surgery.” She explained.
